Peadar ODonnells
Peadar ODonnells
Located on Waterloo Street, Peadar ODonnells is one of Derry’s most exciting bars, home to the traditional music scene in the city. Building on a reputation as one of the must-see places for tourists in increasing numbers, the Peader’s complex now comprises of three bars, all famed for their cosy atmosphere and their (often impromptu) music sessions.
Named for the infamous Irish socialist and Republican activist, present or active in some of Ireland’s most politically turbulent years, the bar makes as indelible an impression as its namesake would have. It is reknowned in the city and further afield for its live music and slightly off-kilter approach to decor and is a hub of lively, friendly locals.
For the best night, visitors should try and make it to any of the three bars (Peadars, The Gweedore and Upstairs Gweedore) after 10.30PM when most live music sessions are in full flow.
