Jazz and Big Band Festival
Held annually, funded by the Derry City Council and supported by BBC Radio Foyle, the Derry-Londonderry Jazz & Big Band Festival is one of the leading events in Europe that takes the city by storm.
Now in its twelfth year, the festival incorporates 70 venues and over 200 musicians like the Jive Aces, Jools Holland and Washington, D.C’s Miranda Rosenberg that have drawn crowds of up to 35,000 music lovers.
Among the venues in the dedicated ‘Jazz Trail’ are the Strand Bar complex, Mason’s and the grand Corinthian Ballroom City Hotel’s; all shapes and sizes to accomodate large and small performances. In more recent year there has been a noticeabld increase in the number of outdoor performances in order to gather larger crowds that may not have been able to see the acts in licensed premises.
